13.1

I have never thought of myself a runner.  The complete opposite, actually.  I always was somewhat jealous of those that loved running, and were good at it.  I had a million and one excuses as to why that couldn't be me.

  • I have really bad knees.  The running is too hard of impact on them.  {seriously, though.  You should hear these bad boys.  It's like velcro}
  • I can do any type of cardio, I just don't like to run.  I'd rather work out on the eliptical machine.
My despise of running goes way back.  I will never forget in danceline in high school, we would start out our practices by running the school halls a few times.  A group of us would just chill in the bathrooms for about 10 minutes, splash a little water on our faces, and run back "panting".  It's really quite amazing the level my laziness went.

Last summer I decided that there was no reason I couldn't do what I envied others for doing.  It seemed like a big mountain to climb, but I went for it.  I started slow.  Very slow.  The couch 2 5k program was awesome to get this lazy butt going.  I talked with my sister and signed up with her to run a 5k.  Now that I had agreed to do it with someone else, it wasn't nearly as easy to make an excuse and bail out for some reason or another.  I was nervous going into it, but I remember how proud I was when I finished.
{Find it HERE}

When I finished the race, I made a goal that next year I'd be back and do the 10k.  That seemed impossible at the time, but I decided to take it a step further.

That's right, my friends.  I signed up for a half marathon.  Excuse me while I go to vomit thinking about it.  13.1 miles.  I'm going to claim temporary insanity.

I have the Hal Higdon half marathon app on my iPhone.  I am currently on week 2 of 12 and have been getting through it to this point.  I've just said that no matter how slow I'm going {and believe me, it's slow.  I think a tortoise passed me up last night} I cannot stop.  Sunday was my first "long" run of the series.  Four miles.  That was 1 more mile than I've ever run and about 1.5 more than I was comfortably running at that point. I'm using "comfortably" loosely.  I got through it.  I was a hot, sweaty, tired mess,  but I got through it.

So, I may be dying of heat exhaustion and want to throw up and pass out simultaneously, but I'll be out there.  Expect a post in September cuing Dora's "I Did It" dance.

Sleepwalking Sweetheart

Do you all remember this guy?
Each page of the book you'd turn, you never knew where you'd find him.  We are currently playing the same game at home, only with where we'll find Kendall in the mornings.  It wasn't uncommon for us to go into their room before we'd go to sleep to find her with her pillow and sleeping bag right next to Sydney's crib.
She told us that Sydney liked it when she slept closer to her.  haha, ok.  The last three nights Kendall has fallen asleep in her bed, and when we'd wake up we'd have a surprise as where we'd find her.

Night 1 we walked out our bedroom door to find her camped out in the hallway.
Night 2 she didn't quite make it that far, and was passed out in her doorway.
Last night she made her farthest trek yet.  I found her laying next to our bed.
She falls asleep just fine, so I know she's not scared of her room.  I have no idea what wakes her up, or moreso what gets her out of her bed and sleeping on the floor.

Where will we find her next?

Bring on the popcorn!

I've been wanting to bring Kendall to the movies for quite some time now.  I figured she'd be able to sit still long enough, but it seems like something always comes up.  Either we have the time, but there aren't any good kids movies in theaters or we're busy with something else.

During my morning cup of coffee yesterday, I was thinking of what to do for the day.  Then I remembered seeing commercials for this movie.
I don't know about you, but one of the great parts about having kids, is getting to do the fun kid things that you missed, but look funny doing as an adult.  Like, you know, going to movies like this.  Eric had planned to go out for a round of golf with his dad, so Sydney went to play at Grandma's for a couple of hours.  When I told Kendall that she and I would go to a movie like big girls, she was EXCITED!
The movie started at 11:50, so I should have given her something nutritious for lunch.  But, even Kendall knows that it's not a movie without popcorn.  So, you can pass me the Mother of the Year trophy.  I let my kid have popcorn for lunch.  I did sneak in a pouch of applesauce which she had with it, so I win a few points back, right??
Blurry iPhone pic, but it shows how captive she was the whole time.
I tried to get her picture with the movie poster after the movie ended, but she was too excited pointing out each of the animals and what they did during the movie.  So, I get the back of her head. ;)
We had a great time, and I can't wait to do it again with her!

Entrepreneur in the Making

I love talking with Kendall. You can almost see the wheels spinning in her head.

She was looking in this kids craft book while I was putting away laundry, and saw a piggy bank.

K: Can we make my very own piggy bank, and then people can give me money to put in it?
Me: who's going to give you money?
K: They will put it in cards and mail it to me.
Me: why will people mail you money?
K: cuz I'll have a party.
Me: You're birthday is still a ways off. How else will you get money?
K: I make beautiful pictures. People will give me money for my pictures.

That's my girl! :) And so you can see the artist in the making, here is her picture she made of me. Love it. :)

Miss Sydney's Luau!!

Last Thursday was my baby girl's 2nd birthday.  On Saturday we had her luau birthday party.  We had decided to just set everything up in the garage and set up pools and water stuff for the kids to play.  The weather was projected to be HOT, so I was a little nervous.  Luckily, even though it was probably 90*, there was a good breeze so it wasn't unbearable.

Once again, pinterest had me finding all sorts of things I wanted to try out for the party.
Here are the gift pails for the kids and some decorations.
Some of the treats.  Eric's cousin's wife made the cupcakes and the cake.  How cute are those cupcakes.  I also made some flip flop nutter butters, and some s'mores on a stick
OMG, this cake was my favorite thing.  I was looking for a bakery on Facebook, and Eric's cousin's wife said she could do it.  I had no idea what it was going to look like, but just told her luau themed.  This totally exceeded my expectations.  The "sand" was graham crackers and I found the kids raking it.  :)  It tasted as good as it looked too!  I hated cutting into it and wrecking it.  I think I found our new baker!
Some tiki poles going up the driveway, and some centerpieces
I started this with Kendall's third birthday where I asked her questions.  Sydney isn't quite to that point yet, so I just made notes of some of her favorite things.
The treat table.

One base said "luau" and one said "Aloha" that I printed from the luau Cricut cartridge I found.
I bought each of the girls these adorable outfits from Target.  I thought they fit the luau theme perfectly.  I had them both dressed and as soon as I opened the front door for Sydney to walk outside, she ran and dove in the pool.  I thought that was probably my sign to ditch the clothes and pull out some swimsuits.  Stat.
We had two little pools, a slip and slide and a sprinkler set up.  The kids were in heaven, and were never bored!
Sydney, as always, was spoiled with lots of fun new things!
The girls got a new table and chairs that they tested out waiting for the cake to come.
My sister and her husband went to Hawaii a few years ago and bought this outfit for Kendall.  The size said 3-5 years, so I didn't think it'd fit Sydney.  Kendall didn't want to wear it, but I should've known better that Sydney would be game.  She walked around in her little hula gear for quite awhile.
She got a crown at daycare on her birthday, and wore it that entire day, and wanted to at her party.
Sydney even hit the pool in her hula outfit!
The kids started the day at noon, and by dinner time still weren't ready to go inside.  We decided to order a pizza, and they were excited to have a picnic.
The kids got some kites for her birthday, so they decided to try them out.

The party turned out perfectly, and the kids had a BLAST.  Now to start planning Kendall's, which she keeps asking when it is.  :)  Poor kid, I don't think she realizes how far away October is.

Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!

Oh, sweet Sydney Rose. I cannot believe that my sweet baby is turning two today. On one hand, it's almost impossible to remember what life was like before you came into ours. On the other, this has easily been the fastest two years of our lives.

While I was pregnant with you, I had the worry that every mother has. How can I possibly love another baby as much as I love your older sister. From the moment they placed you into my arms, and you looked at me with those beautiful chubby cheeks, you filled up that spot in my heart that I had no idea was reserved for only you.

You are the most hilarious, spunky, thoughtful, and sweet daughter. You have your own personality, and it's been such a joy to see it show more and more. You are starting to talk more than ever (it was hard for you to be able to get a word in without Kendall jumping in to talk for you!). Most of the time you ask something or answer a question, you have the most hilarious infliction in your voice accompanying the sly smile on your face. You always look like you're scheming something. I have a feeling, my dear, that you'll be keeping us on our toes in a few years. :)

I truly think that you were the greatest gift we could have ever given your big sister. From the moment you came home, she has loved you and looked out for you. You are also an amazing little sister to her. I love watching the bond between the two of you grow deeper and stronger.

At two years old, you are talking more, you love to play dress up, you love to read books, and dance and jump.  The jumping is quite hilarious, now that you've finally figured out how to get both feet off the ground.

As of your 2 year appointment last Friday, you were 23 lbs {9 %tile}, 33 in. {33 %tile} and your head was 18.25" around {23%}.  My little peanut. It helps your wardwarb when you're still fitting into some 12-18 month clothes from last summer! :)  For a little thing though, you sure are strong!  You're wildly independent, but generally a great listener.  If you are asked to do something, it's usually followed by you with a quick nod of the head and a "K!!!!".  You like to say things loudly.  :)
You've grown to love one blankie, and we're still dealing with your love of your nuk.  That's ok though, because it helps you to go right down for sleep.  You're still taking about a 3 hour nap during the day, and sleep from about 8:30/9 - 6:30/7 during the week.  I think your big sister tends to keep you up at night, but it's hard to get upset when we hear the giggles coming from your room.

Happy Birthday, sweet girl.  You are so loved.

Today is the last day. :(

Today is the last day we have a 1 year old in the house.  I cannot believe that tomorrow, my little baby girl is going to be 2.  Her first birthday was tough, but 1 is still a baby in many ways.  2?  Well, 2 is full on toddler.  2 is talking, running, climbing, attitudes, stories, playtime, and all around wonderful.  It just is not a baby.  But, as awesome as it is, I suppose it makes it ok.

Let's take a look back to see how much my little pumpkin has grown

The Wedding Weekend!

This weekend, Eric, Kendall and I headed up to Duluth for one of my best and oldest friend's weddings.  What a fun weekend, but I think we're all still tired.  These pics are a variety of cell and camera pics, but all straight from the camera.  I haven't had any time to edit yet.

We left right after lunch on Friday.  I was really hoping Kendall would nap the whole way up, but she was a chatterbox.  She finally fell asleep, only to wake up 20 minutes later when Eric stopped at a gas station.  Oh well.  Right after we checked into the hotel, we had to rush to the rehearsal so we could practice up.  Poor Kendall thought that she completed her flower girl tasks.  She was a little too cooperative, so I had a premonition that Saturday may not go as smoothly.
After the dinner, a few of us stopped for a drink or two at the hotel bar.
The next morning, K was tired.  She did not want to get up to go to her hair appointment.  She kept telling me she was already a flower girl last night, and wanted to go back to sleep.  We went to the bakery downstairs where she eyed up a sprinkled donut.  That made her happier for a bit.
She waited almost an hour while I got my hair done.  By that point she was over it and was ready to go.  Luckily, the salon had a few books which saved the day.
This pic kept coming in sideways, but you get the idea. ;)
My mom had made her beautiful dress.  I almost died at how grown up my baby girl looked that day!
We had most of our pictures outside in this gorgeous park.  Kendall had so many bouquets of dandelions picked.
While we were waiting for the wedding to start, Kendall kept busy by dancing in the mirror.
An attempt at a family pic (missing Sydney of course, who was back home with Eric's parents)
She was exhausted by this point.  I couldn't wait for the ceremony to be done so I wasn't stressed about how she'd do.
Kendall's big moment finally came.  She walked to the start of the aisle and.....put the basket over her head.  lol  Then, it got stuck.  Of course it did.
When she finally got it off of her head, some petals fell out.  She would not walk down until she picked them up and put them back in her basket. The personal attended tried to help her, and Kendall insisted on doing it herself.  By this point, the whole church is laughing.
She was finally ready, and did a great job.  But, when she got to the front, she still had petals left and turned around to go back down...as the bride was walking up.  lol  Eric had to sprint in the pews to grab her.  Oh my. :)
 The Mr. & Mrs.!!!

The bridal party.

I tried to get a picture of Kendall and I at dinner, and she was being a stinker again.  Needless to say, the tired little bugger didn't make it long.  She was up in the room with Grandma and Poppy T snuggling in with a movie right after dinner.  I was hoping on dancing with her, but she just couldn't last through it.
We had promised her all weekend we'd go swimming, so before we left on Sunday, we had to hit the pool.

Overall, it was such a fabulous weekend.  I will admit that I wondered how in the world those Toddler & Tiara moms do it.  Now I know why they let their kids have pixi sticks and red bull. ;)

Kidding of course....mostly.  lol
