Happy Halloween!!

Friday night, we went to the elementary school, where they had a pumpkin patch carnival.  We met up with a couple of friends from daycare.  Yep, this was the best I could get for a group shot!
We started out by having some yummy pizza!
As soon as we were done, Kendall and Blake ran for the bounce house!  There was another blow up house that you could run through, which all three loved!
After the eating and bouncing (shoot, was I supposed to make them wait an hour, or is that just swimming?) it was time for some arts and crafts.  Kendall is pretty intense with her scissors!
There were some games to play.  Sydney kept wanting to run back and grab all of the bean bags and put them in the bucket herself.
Saturday morning we met up with some more friends to go to a trick or treating event at a local grocery store.  Meet Rainbow Brite and Twink!! :)
Again, not much luck with the group shots.
I can't look at Sydney without cracking up!
Aren't they just the CUTEST???  I think so.
Tonight, after all of this Halloween practice is the real deal.  Kendall has been practicing "Trick or Treat" for weeks!  When she woke up this morning and looked outside she said, "Mommy, it's dark outside.  That means it's Halloween!"  I'm not sure how she put those two together, but I guess she's right!

How about a vote for our "treat"? :)

Y3W | Halloween Pumpkin Carnival

Today I get to leave work a little early to bring Kendall to her 3 year check up.  Luckily, the only shot will be the flu shot so hopefully we'll come out as happy as going in!  After that, the elementary school in town has a pumpkin carnival.  We haven't gone before, so I'm not entirely sure what's all there, but I know there is a bounce house, games, food, etc. so the kids should be happy!

We tried on the girls' Halloween costumes last night to be sure they fit (my mom made them for us).  OMG, you guys.  They are ca-ute!!  Every time I looked at Sydney I cracked up laughing.  Just wait for pictures, they'll be worth it!

Until then, here are a couple from last year to tide you over.

Thinking Back Thursday Vol. 3

This was how we texted back in the good 'ole days.

Are you singing it in your head too? "I'm so excited! I'm so excited!  I'm so....I'm so...scared!!"
::cue hysterical cries into Zach's arms::

This is a family version I found on pinterest, but I loved this game!

Remember how badly you wish you could shoot that annoying dog?  He'd pop up and giggle at you.
I tried and I tried, but it never worked.

Wordless Wednesday | Kendall's Candyland Birthday Party

Saturday we had Kendall's big 3rd birthday party!!  I found so many cute ideas on Pinterest, but Candyland stuck out.  Kendall got this game for Christmas last year and she LOVES it.  We had so much fun planning and decorating for her birthday party, and Kendall loved it the most.  Every night she asks if I can put her decorations back up. :)
Kendall called this her very own castle and said she felt so special. ) All it took was some PVC pipe, cheap fabric (we used a burlap that was on sale), some fuzzy puff thingys and hot glue, paper plates for the lollipops and a dowel cut in half and painted white.  Easy peasy.  There was a little bit of limbo going on for the taller guests going up and down the stairs, but over all it worked great!
I found these candy ideas and had to do them.  I bought a styrofoam disk at Crafts Direct, wrapped it in tissue paper, and then wrapped in cellophane. Luckily, I had a big spool of the ribbon used on balloons that I had bought years ago, which came in handy for all of the ribbon I needed.  The banner was left over from Sydney's birthday party.  Cut out the "1st" and it works again!
I thought this would be the easiest of decorations for me.  I mean, how hard is it to twist and tape down crepe paper?  Not too easy I tell ya.  I bet I spent an hour alone at this stupid wall.  And that hour started around 1am.  I think it turned out all right though.  I was going to do a balloon arch over it, but ended up just doing a balloon cluster.  Again, the spool of ribbon worked perfectly for tying the balloons together.
This trail was a hit with the kids.  I bought a pack of multi colored paper at Crafts Direct (maybe $8 for the whole pack) and just used double stick tape to stick it down.  Kendall followed her trail whenever she walked in the kitchen and was so disappointed when I took down her "road".
I bough the larger pom poms for the castle to simulate gumdrops.  The pack had a bunch of smaller ones in it which worked perfectly to fill this pot.  I grabbed sand from the kids sandbox to hold in the straws for the pinwheels and just topped with the leftover pom poms.
I went through Kendall's Candyland game to find what the different "stations" in the game were.  This one was for Licorice Lagoon .
Cupcake Commons.  I found the cupcake frosting that you can squeeze out of the can.  It worked great for me to have different colors (I bought all four kinds) and it was MUCH easier than hand frosting all of them.

A close up of the labels.  See below for seller information.

We had an ice cream bar.  I scooped up the ice cream into cupcake liners ahead of time, wrapped with plastic wrap and put back in the freezer.  This saved a TON of time, so we weren't stuck scooping up ice cream for everyone and could enjoy ourselves.
I made three of these little Candyland men, 2 red and 1 yellow.  I found red and yellow foamboard.  I cut them out with a utility knife (which wasn't the easiest, but it was the best I could do.) I found a Sharpie paint pen at Craft's Direct which worked well to paint on the face and body.
How cute is she?? ;)
The birthday girl!
She was a pro at opening gifts by the end of the day!!
You saw the treat bag labels above, but I also ordered this invite and thank you card from the Little Beane Boutique on Etsy.  She was awesome to work with and got my proofs out to me super quickly and the order out just as fast.  I'll definitely check back to her shop when it's time for the next party!

So, there you have it!  Kendall's 3rd birthday party.  Yesterday was her actual birthday, so I have more pictures from our little celebration last night, but I haven't uploaded them yet.  Eric left the laptop open and Sydney ripped off about 1/2 the keys again.  Maybe tomorrow. :)

Dear Kendall

Dear Kendall,
Today you are 3, my love!!  It really feels like yesterday I was writing to you for your 2nd birthday.  In the past year you have amazed us daily.  We have spent a large chunk of the year battling potty training.  I kept begging you to do it before your 3rd birthday and you snuck in at the last minute and did it!!  We are so proud of you, and better yet, you are so proud of yourself.

You've grown up into such a funny little girl.  You are constantly saying things that make us break out laughing, and more often than not scratching our heads trying to figure out where you came up with that.  You are strong willed and will often hold your own.  However, you balance that with your sweet heart.  You will always be up for crawling in my lap to cuddle and sing songs together.  You will never shy away from running to give us hugs and kisses.  You always will tell us how much you "lub" us.

You've been such a guider and teacher for your little sister.  You are her biggest cheerleader, and I love hearing you trying to teach her new things.  You would encourage her to walk, to talk and to play with you.  You are always giving her hugs and kisses, even when she doesn't want them. :)  You make me so proud of how much you look out for her.  She (as well as your daddy and I) is so lucky to have you.

It's been a big year for you, honey.  You made it through your first surgery better than we could have imagined.  You amazed us with your strength and courage.  You got your first bike, got to see Barney & Friends, went to school, and got to go to the Children's Museum.

As much as it pains me to have you growing up on us so quickly, I love to watch what a beautiful little girl you are turning into.  You are so smart, funny and thoughtful.  We were blessed beyond imagination when God gave us you.  We love you more than words can say, Kendall.  Happy 3rd Birthday!!

Check back tomorrow for a TON of pictures from the Candyland birthday party!

Y3W | Kendall's 3rd Birthday!!

Tomorrow is my baby girl's birthday party.  3rd birthday party.  Holy Hannah, how did three years fly by already?!?  This year, Kendall was tricked into thinking she wanted a Candyland birthday party.  I can work with that! ;)

Once again, I'm feeling behind when I think of all of the things I need to do.  Eric's been out of town since Wednesday, so I haven't been too productive with him gone and taking care of the girls by myself.

I still need to:

  1. finalize the menu and finish my grocery shopping
  2. bake the cupcakes
  3. clean the house
  4. make the food
  5. decorate
  6. bring the balloons to be blown up
  7. finish a few of the decorations
  8. figure out if said decorations are going to work out like I hoped they would
  9. hit the liquor store (depending on the stress level, this may be moved to #1)
  10. Enjoy the party!!
I'm sure there is a ton that I'm leaving off of my list.  It's easier that way, so I don't feel too overwhelmed.  I'm tempted to only work 1/2 a day today.  The bad part about starting a new job is less vacation time built up.  I feel like I've taken so much time off between my surgery, and various doctor appointments for the girls, so I'll stick around today. :(

I'll have a special birthday post to Kendall on Tuesday, her actual birthday.  I'll also try to post pictures and a summary of the party (no sneak peeks for you!) this weekend or Monday.  To tide you off, here are some flashback pictures of my pretty princess.

I let Kendall crawl into bed with me to sleep last night, since Eric was gone.  You never realize how often you say things until they are repeated back to you.  As we got all nestled in, I hear a sweet little voice say, "Goodnight, my love."  ::swoon::
