The Most Beautiful Sound

This has started out to be a tough week for our family.  However, the bright spot, was when I got home from work yesterday Miss Sydney gave me her first word.  And it was mama.  The sweetheart knew just what I wanted to hear.

And in case I didn't hear it the first night, all night it was "ma ma ma ma"  "ma ma ma ma"  and so on and so on.  It was wonderful.  Of course Kendall couldn't be without praise also, so then she walked around saying mama all night too. =)

Sydney's First Shiner

Good news - Sydney is crawling, climbing and exploring.  Bad news - she's not too steady.  While visiting grandma and grandpa the other night, she fell over into the corner of the entertainment center.  Eric picked her right up and she IMMEDIATELY had a dark purple bruise and the goose egg popped up about 0.4 seconds later.  The girl is a trooper though.  She only cried for a minute or two.  But seriously, what kind of mother would I be if I didn't take pictures of her in her weak state. :)

Sydney's 8 Months

Wow.  I keep getting worse and worse at this documenting thing.  Sydney actually turned 8 months on the 7th.  That was only 8 days ago. :)

It amazes me how big she's getting on me.  She is changing so much, and it's so fun to watch!!

Here are some stats as to what she's been up to this last month:

Weight - 17 pounds
Length - 27"
Head - 17"

Sleep - One longer nap (maybe 2 hours) and 1-2 shorter naps (1/2 hour or so).  She goes to bed between 7:30-8 and gets up around 6:30.  Finally free of the swaddle and is now just using the sleep sack.  She now always sleeps either on her side or belly.  I lay her on her back and within seconds she'll flip over.  She is still being rocked to sleep every night.  Brianna gets her to lay down and put herself to sleep at daycare, but Sydney just won't do it for me.  She knows how to work her mama.  Good thing I love to cuddle!  Oh well, she won't be needed to be rocked to sleep in college.  I'm enjoying the cuddle time for now.

Eat - Still exclusively breastfed and now on three solids a day.  Fruit/oatmeal for breakfast, veggie/rice cereal for lunch, veggie or fruit for dinner.  She'll nurse before daycare and once to twice at night before bed.  She doesn't drink a lot at one time for her bottles, but will have about 10-14oz a day at daycare.

Play/Activity - Now that she is crawling, she's having so much fun chasing after Kendall and getting into her toys.  Kendall is still loving her little playmate.

Mood - Sydney is still so happy (other than last week when she was sick with a cold) and is usually a really good baby.

Here are her monthly pictures!

My Brave Little Girl

Today was Kendall's surgery to remove most of her birthmark.  I've been awaiting dreading this day for quite awhile.  We had talked long and hard before we came to the decision.  After meeting with the doctor we decided to go ahead with it.

We went down to Mpls last night and had some fun before the big day.  We stopped in at Panera for some yummy dinner.

As we were heading out, the doctor called to check if we had any last minute questions or concerns.  I was pretty impressed that she called us personally.  After checking in at our hotel it was time for the pool!

She had so much funny jumping into the pool and when daddy would throw her high in the air.  And he caught her...most of the time.

After all of the water fun, it was time to head back up to the room to read some books, watch some cartoons and settle in for the night.  We had to get Kendall up by 6am to get on the road, so we could check in at 6:30.

We got to the hospital and checked in.  We had some time to cuddle up and read her two new stories from Grandma K and Poppy T.  Kendall was quite the charmer and I think the nurses were falling for her.

The nurses let me carry her back to the OR and hold her hand as they gave her gas.  We let her have her Nuk for the day so she would feel comforted.  The gas mask fit over her nose and mouth with her Nuk in.  She cried for a second and drifted off to sleep.  It was so comforting to be able to be with her, so she wasn't scared.  After that I was shooed out and Eric and I waiting patiently (well, not really) in our room waiting to hear.  The doctor came back about 35-40 minutes later and said everything went great and Kendall was waking up in the recovery room.  About 15 minutes later, they brought our groggy little girl back to us.  We were told when she woke up, all she was asking for was juice.  Go figure!  Poor thing wasn't able to eat or drink anything since the night before.  We got in a lot more cuddling time while we waited.

Kendall fell back asleep on the way home (about 9am) and slept until 1pm.  At this point she still had not eaten anything.  The rest of the day she was so happy and smiley.  You would've never been able to tell she had surgery that morning.  We never had to give her Tylenol or anything, she was doing so well.  Eric and I were both so proud of our little girl.

The nurse called in to check on her around 8:30 that night.  I think this little honey made quite the impression on them.  She waved bye to everyone as we left and said, "Thank you!"  :)

Check out the New Page!

I wanted to have a way to write down all of the funny {well, at least we find them funny} things that Miss Kendall is saying now.  She's putting so many words and thoughts together, it's great to see how her mind is working.  I thought the best way is to add another page to the blog for this.  Don't worry, I'm not playing favorites.  As soon as Sydney starts up, she can have her own page too. :)

Kendall's first phone call

Kendall:  Hi! Hi! Hi! Hi!
Me:  Hi Kendall!  What are you doing?
K: Play with dada.  Play with Ce Ce (Sydney)
Me: Are you playing with daddy?
K:  Yessss!!!!  Play hide seek.  I close my eyes.  Find dada.
Me:  You're playing hide and seek?  Did you find daddy?
K:  Silence.  She was off to play again.

I don't care, it may have been short but that was my first phone convo with Kendall.  I'm still in awe that I can hold conversations (and now over the phone!) with my little baby. that girl.

Watch Out World - There's a Baby on the Loose

We officially have a crawler.  Sydney has been rocking back and forth for a few weeks now.  She'd move a couple "steps" with her hands and then fall on her face.  She's been a little more fussy because she'd get so frustrated.  I think she knew in her head what she needed to do to get to her toys, but her body just wasn't listening.

Something must have clicked, because she is a pro now!  I'm not used to going into the bedroom or somewhere and turning around and having my little buddy following me.  I love it!

I'm out of town {again!} for work, so I'll have to update the cute video I got of her when I get home.
